Equipment

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 sharp knife
  • 1 refrigerator for chilling

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh fish fillets snapper, sea bass, or halibut, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 red onion finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro chopped
  • 1 jalapeño minced
  • 2 ripe avocados diced
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cut the fish fillets into small, bite-sized cubes, ensuring all skin and bones are removed. Place the cubes in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add the fresh lime juice to the bowl with the fish. Stir gently to coat the fish evenly, then add the chopped red onion, cilantro, and minced jalapeño.
  • Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the fish to cure and absorb the flavors.
  • Before serving, gently fold in the diced avocado. Season with salt to taste, ensuring the flavors are well balanced.

Serving

  • Serve chilled in martini glasses or small bowls. Garnish with additional cilantro if desired.

Storage

  • Store any leftover ceviche in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one day. Note that the avocado may brown slightly but will still be delicious.

Notes

Pro Tips: Ensure the fish is as fresh as possible for the best flavor. Balance the lime juice and salt to your taste preferences.
Ingredient Substitutions: If you cannot find fresh fish, use high-quality frozen fish, thawed completely.
How to Serve: Serve with tortilla chips or on a bed of lettuce for an added crunch.
Storage & Freshness: Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one day.
Make-Ahead Tips: Prepare the fish and lime mixture a few hours in advance, but add avocado just before serving to maintain its vibrant color.
