Equipment

  • 1 skillet for pan-searing
  • 1 air fryer optional for air frying
  • 1 mixing bowl for marinade
  • 1 tongs for flipping steaks

Ingredients

Tuna and Marinade

  • 4 ahi tuna steaks about 6 oz each
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger grated
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Optional Garnishes

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp chopped scallions
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro

Instructions

Preparation

  • Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Trim any sinew or skin if necessary.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, lime juice, honey, and black pepper. Whisk until well mixed.
  • Place the tuna steaks in the marinade, ensuring they are fully submerged. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, turning once halfway through.

Cooking

  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add a small amount of oil. Cook the tuna steaks for 2-3 minutes on each side or until desired doneness.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Cook the steaks for 4-6 minutes, depending on thickness, for a medium-rare finish.

Serving

  • Let the steaks rest for a couple of minutes. Slice thinly and garnish with sesame seeds, scallions, and cilantro if desired.

Storage

  • Store any leftover tuna steaks in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently to avoid overcooking.
